TRIkid is a program specifically designed to prepare kids
7-14 years old to complete in a youth triathlon.
Summer Session: Beginning in March and lasting until September
Fall/Winter Training: Training in running & swimming continues from September thru February
and we will target various local running races.
Youth Tri's typically consist of two distances dependent on age:
Under 10 yrs. old: 50-100 meter Pool Swim/approx. 2 mile Bike/approx. .5 mi Run
11 yrs & older: 100-200 meter Pool Swim/approx. 4 mile Bike/approx. 1 mile Run
We also offer youth training for the Richmond Sprint Triathlon for our 11 & older athletes.
This triathlon consists of a 400m swim/20k bike/5k run.
The TRIkid program will combine skill techniques, basic safety issues and workouts in swimming, biking and running.
Some of the triathlon related issues that will be covered include: proper swim techniques; what to wear during a triathlon; bicycle safety;
hydration and proper nutrition. Additionally, training sessions will focus on building confidence, sportsmanship and having FUN!!
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Youth age 7-14, in good health with no health problems.
All participants must be able to swim 25 meters/yards without assistance, ride a bicycle without assistance and run/walk a 1/2 mile without stopping.
